Previously, his team also carried out the second complete facial transplant in Poland.

The surgical team’s last major success was a neck organ transplant combined with a simultaneous bone marrow transplant performed on a child. This was the first such procedure in the world. The professor adds that the Godin Prize covers the entire achievement, and is not a reward for one treatment.
“I am pleased to have presented this procedure in a competition that concerns the best reconstructions of 2019. From among several hundred, this procedure was selected for the final of the five best treatments of 2019” – the surgeon said.
The first ever complex neck organ transplant
Professor Daniel Bula, a member of the surgical team, also talked about the complicated transplant.
” The reconstruction team of the Oncology Institute in Gliwice carried out the first-ever complex neck organ transplant along with stem cell transplantation. This is the first case of this type in the world and the third case of neck organ transplantation in general in history” he pointed out.
