May 2nd marks Poland's Flag Day

This year marks the 16th year that Poland celebrates this national hoiday. May 2nd is comfortably situated between two other national holidays, Labor Day, which in on May 1 st and Constitution Day of May 3rd. While Flag Day does not qualify as a day off from work, many people try to have the day off as it fits in nicely for a long weekend.🇵🇱

The choice of this particular day was not accidental and has historical justification. On May 2, 1945, Polish soldiers from the 1st Kosciuszko Division hung the white and red flag on the Victory Column in Berlin. By conquering the capital of Nazi Germany, they contributed to the end of hostilities in Europe. ✌🇵🇱
